About Lavare Soap

I stumbled across learning how to create soap from scratch when I was harvesting Spanish lavenders that grow prolific on our property in the Sierra foothills during early spring.  I love the scent, healing properties and multiple uses of lavenders, as they are always calming to me.  After a busy or long day at work, the scent of lavender in my bath, hot tea, or on our linens, soothes my soul; so I was thinking of ways to incorporate them in as many things my husband and I can use for our home.  That is when I decided to, among other things, create our own soap with lavenders.

After my initial trial with melt and pour soap making process using water I infused with lavender, I was immediately hooked.  I then progressed from doing melt and pour soaps to utilizing cold process, which means creating soap from scratch.  Cold process soap making takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks to completely cure soaps.  The science and art of cold process soap making interested and awakened a passion in me that transcends soap making.  The process taught me important lessons such as making healthier choices by using only natural ingredients even in small yet necessary things like soap, avoiding waste, and availing of the bounty of natural ingredients that we can find around us, in our gardens or in our cupboards.   

Because our Spanish lavenders were my initial inspiration, I decided to pay homage to this very versatile and very fragrant herb by branding our soaps “Lavare.”  The lavender herb derives its name from this Latin word lavare which, serendipitously, means ”to wash,” indeed an apropos name for soap.  

Lavare soaps are handcrafted using only natural ingredients, natural colorants, and they are scented only with essential oils.  Lavare soaps are free from chemicals that are typically present in mass-produced commercial soaps such as parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, synthetic perfumes, artificial colorings and preservatives.  

Because we handcraft Lavare soaps, each batch is limited and will have slight variations.  In creating Lavare soaps, we use oils and other natural ingredients that have beneficial properties.  Lavare Soap also endeavors to source its ingredients within its community in the Sierra foothills, including local farms, orchards, wineries, food coop, etc.

While we will feature certain soaps in limited numbers, we can create made-to-order soaps for special occasions or needs, and we will endeavor to accommodate preference of ingredients and scents in the process.  Due to the nature of cold process soap making, we will require the appropriate lead time.  For any interest or questions you may have, please feel free to write to us at info@lavaresoap.com.
