BENEFITS OF COLD PROCESSED SOAPS

Cold process soap making can be traced to when ancient Babylonians mixed ash and fats to create soap.  Today, cold process soap making is similar, combining sodium hydroxide and fatty oils, which then produces a chemical reaction called saponification. 

In addition to its fascinating roots in ancient history, there are many benefits to cold process soaps.  Below are a few.  

First, unlike mass-produced soaps, a cold process soap maker typically uses only natural ingredients, making the soaps free from harsh chemicals such as parabens, petrochemicals, synthetic perfumes, and artificial coloring that can be harmful. 

Second, cold process soap retains natural glycerin, a compound that acts as a barrier to protect skin from irritants and is also moisturizing.  

Finally, cold process soaps are sustainable, as it can be almost zero-waste.  For example, the residual soap flakes from cold process soap making can be recycled to make new hand-milled soaps.
